Chapter 02 — Our People

Our people

A brief introduction to the three who would welcome you at Momijiyado.

Kazama Kaede — the young proprietress of Momijiyado

Proprietress — Kazama Kaede

Kazama Kaede

Born at the height of the maples

Born November 20, 2001. She read Japanese literature at a women's university in Kyoto, and came back to the inn when her grandmother went into recuperation. With the first cool turn of the autumn wind, she hopes to share the Arashiyama season with her guests.

The kitchen — head chef Kazama Akira's hands

Head Chef — Kazama Akira

Kazama Akira

Kaede's father / Shown only by his hands

Kaiseki of the old capital is the spine of the menu, set against the seasonal ingredients of Arashiyama. The day's courses follow what arrives that morning. He does not appear in front of guests; the work is done quietly, from the kitchen.

Wisteria — the emblem of Murasaki

Former Proprietress — Kazama Murasaki

Kazama Murasaki

Kaede's grandmother / In recuperation, present in the courtyard wisteria

She loved The Tale of Genji, and passed its heart on to the current proprietress. She now rests quietly in central Kyoto. Until the day we may see her again.

Please pass the season of Arashiyama gently with us.

— Momijiyado, all of us

※ Kaede's mother — the previous proprietress, Tsubaki (departed) — is told in the History chapter.
