Momijiyado 紅葉宿

An imagined ryokan in Arashiyama.
One autumn, in residence.

Kazama Kaede — the young proprietress of Momijiyado

Our proprietress

Kazama Kaede.

Born at the height of the maples

She read Japanese literature at a women's university in Kyoto, and came back to the inn when her grandmother went into recuperation. With the first cool turn of the autumn wind, she hopes to share the Arashiyama season with her guests.

CH. 00 · A note

There is no inn you can stand inside. No proprietress at the threshold, no chef sliding a tray across the tatami.

Everything you will see here — the rooms, the meals, the seasons, the people — has been imagined. The intent is not to deceive, but to write a quiet story in the form a small inn might have taken, and to let the maples turn at their own pace.
